Samenvatting
Bipolar disorder (BD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) both are severe and chronic psychiatric disorders. Corresponding guidelines describe different forms of psychotherapy for BD and BPD. Both disorders have overlapping symptoms, and about 10,7-16% of patients with BD also suffer from BPD (Paris et al., 2007). Little is known about integrative treatments addressing both BD and BPD. Well-designed research on the treatment in BD with comorbid BPD is rare. Aim of study 1 is to determine the prevalence of comorbid borderline personality features (BPF) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) in outpatients with bipolar disorder (BD). Aim of study 2 is to investigate in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) the effectiveness of STEPPS (Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving; translated in Dutch as: VERS, Vaardigheidstraining Emotie Regulatie Stoornis) added to treatment as usual (TAU) compared to TAU only.
